Riding Lessons in Okehampton

For Okehampton riders, finding a local instructor who genuinely listens is half the battle. At Fernfield Equestrian every lesson is tailored — there is no fixed "syllabus" that everyone has to fit. We build sessions around what you and your horse need that day, whether that is your very first walk and trot, polishing a Prelim test, or getting back in the saddle after a break.

We are within easy reach of the A30, so if you are travelling from Crediton, Tavistock, Bude, Holsworthy or the surrounding area, we are a straightforward journey from any direction.

Children learning to ride near Okehampton get the best possible start at Fernfield. Our ponies are kind, well-schooled and produced specifically to look after younger riders. We are available to the Pony Club, Riding Schools and individual families, and can coach in our own arena or at your yard.

Lessons build steadily — balance and seat first, then steering and control, then trot, canter and eventually pole-work and small jumps. Every milestone is celebrated and never rushed.

If your last riding lesson was years ago, or a fall has shaken your confidence, you are in the right place. We work with a lot of adult learners and returning riders in the Okehampton area — calm, slow, structured sessions on horses chosen to rebuild your trust. There is no judgement, no pressure and no rush.

For riders working towards Pony Club competitions, Riding Club fixtures, unaffiliated shows or affiliated British Dressage tests, we offer focused competition prep and on-the-day support. Our coach is a BD Trainee Judge, so feedback is based on the same criteria a judge will be marking from at the white boards.
